Céide Fields Neolithic Site and Visitor Centre

Céide Fields Neolithic Site and Visitor Centre is 8km west of Ballycastle on the R314 in north Mayo. Heritage Ireland describes a system of fields, dwelling areas and megalithic tombs beneath the boglands, which together make up the most extensive Stone Age monument in the world.

The stone-walled fields extend over hundreds of hectares and date back almost 6,000 years. They are covered by a natural blanket bog with its own vegetation and wildlife.

The visitor centre is set against dramatic rock formations, with a viewing platform on the edge of a 110-metre-high cliff. Heritage Ireland advises visitors to come prepared with protective clothing and sturdy footwear, because the terrain and the weather can be challenging.

The site has a seasonal opening period. Check the official Heritage Ireland page for current opening dates, hours and admission before you travel.
